Soft Physics – Three Pomerons?

A model of a three Pomeron contribution to high energy elastic pp and p̄p scattering is proposed. The data are well described for all momenta (0.01 ≤ |t| ≤ 14. GeV 2) and energies (8. ≤ √s ≤ 1800. GeV ) (χ2/d.o.f. = 2.60). The model predicts the appearance of two dips in the differential cross-section which will be measured at LHC. The parameters of the Pomeron trajectories are: α(0)P1 = 1.058, ...

D0 Data Handling Operational Experience

We report on the production experience of the DØ experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, using the SAM data handling system with a variety of computing hardware configurations, batch systems, and mass storage strategies. We have stored more than 300 TB of data in the Fermilab Enstore mass storage system. We deliver data through this system at an average rate of more than 2 TB/day to analysis progr...

Reprocessing D0 Data with SAMGrid

The DØ experiment studies proton-antiproton collisions at the Tevatron collider based at Fermilab. Reprocessing, managing and distributing the large amount of real data coming from the detector as well as generating sufficient Monte Carlo data are some of the challenges faced by the DØ collaboration. SAMGrid combines the SAM data handling system with the necessary job and information management...

Soft and hard pomerons

Regge theory provides an excellent description of small-x structurefunction data from Q = 0 up to the highest available values. The large-Q data should also be described by perturbative QCD: the two descriptions must agree in the region where they overlap. However, at present there is a serious lack in our understanding of how to apply perturbative QCD at small x. The usual lowestorder or next-...

An Introduction to Pomerons

This talk is an attempt to clarify for experimentalists what do we (theorists) mean when we are saying “Pomeron”. I hope, that in this talk they will find answers to such questions as what is Pomeron, what we have learned about Pomeron both experimentally and theoretically, what is the correct strategy to study Pomeron experimentally and etc. I also hope that this talk could be used as a guide ...
